British company continues to expand its family and the latest member is its 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible which sale will start in 2016. After 12 years of success in sales, model which maintained the unique distinctive look still remains the only premium convertible with a soft top in the small car segment. Its design is mostly unchanged and it is based on UKL1 platform. Its biggest competitors are Fiat 500c NAD Volkswagen Beetle Convertible.
2016 Mini Cooper Convertible changes
It’s been two years since the third-generation of Mini Cooper was launched and now there’s the new convertible version. When we talk about design, only little is new on this new version because the lines are already well known and mostly taken from the original hatchback and 5-door version. Of course company used the opportunity to get a little “tighten wrinkles,” so the 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible got a slightly different intake, bumper and headlights blog changed. The dimensions are also very similar, except that the new Mini Convertible longer by 10 cm and wider by 4.4 cm. Visually the most noticeable difference compared to the three-door hatchback is a heavily revised automatic roof which can open or close in only 18 seconds.
With the increased dimensions, new MINI Convertible offers 25 percent more luggage space and now it can “swallow” from 160 to 215 liters. It also has the possibility of folding the backrests of the rear seats, thus the luggage volume can be increased. Passengers in the rear seats were given an additional 36 millimeters in the knee area, seats have more space, and more space is evident in the area of the head and shoulders of all travelers.
Engine and specs
MINI Convertible is offered with a three-cylinder 1.5-liter turbo engine which in the petrol variant offers 136 hp and 220 Nm of torque (230 Nm with overboost). Diesel option with the same configuration offers 116 hp and 270 Nm of torque (300 Nm with overboost).
More powerful Mini S version is offered with 2.0 liter four-cylinder turbo engine which develops 192 hp and 280 Nm of torque (300 Nm with overboost). This version goes from 0 to 100 km / h in 6,7 seconds and its top speed is 230 km/h (140 mph) .The 2016 Mini S is offered with 6-speed manual transmission as standard while automatic 6-speed transmission is optional.
The offer will later be expanded with the 1.2-liter gasoline engine (101 hp), which will be offered with a basic model One and the company also has the plan to offer more powerful two-liter turbo engine with 168 hp. At the top of the range should be the version of the John Cooper Works (JCW) with 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engine with 228 hp.
New MINI release date and price
The 2016 Mini Cooper Convertible will hit the market in 2016, March. If we talk about the price for the standard model you will need to pay around $28,000, and for top MINI Convertible Cooper S you will need to set aside $33,000.
