The Audi A8 is a four-door, full-size, luxury sedan car manufactured and marketed by the German automaker Audi since 1994. The A8 has been offered with both front or permanent all-wheel drive and in short and long-wheelbase variants. Notable for being the first mass-market car with an aluminum chassis, all A8 models have used this construction method co-developed with Alcoa and marketed as the Audi Space Frame. The new 2018 Audi A8 is the first model to be styled under the guidance of Marc Lichte who took over the design reins at Audi in late 2013. The basic engine lineup should be similar to the current A8’s offerings, meaning V-6 and V-8 units. A W-12 is also likely to be offered once more, but continue reading for more details.
Interior of the new A8 is coming packed with high tech gizmos. After years of playing catch-up and second seat to the Mercedes-Benz S-class and the BMW 7-series, the A8 is finally armed and ready to battle these giants with an impressive arsenal of technology features. What is likely to attract most attention, is a semi-autonomous driving mode derived from Audi’s Piloted Driving technology, which supposedly will allow the A8 to park itself and autonomously drive from a stop up to speeds as high as 37 MPH. The A8 will also be equipped with special control units which are supposed to prepare the A8 for further update and upgrade of autonomous driving system. A new infotainment system has been developed and its called MMI Touch Response which also will be part of the package. It is supposed to replace most of the traditional buttons and knobs with several dash-mounted LED screens, which is going to leave a fine and clean finish on the interior and centrally mounted ridge.
Exterior of the A8 is expected to reach perfection since now it is under design stick and guidance of Marc Lichte. It is expected that Marc and Audi will work on a new aesthetic look for the brand, which will be similar to 2014 Prologue concept. There are rumors that Prologues slick coupe lines and stance is in greatly influencing the new 2018 A8, but there are some differences such as significantly wider take on the brand’s “single frame” grille, along with more angular headlights that resemble those seen on the new Audi A4, together with the rear LED light strips. Some might argue that the overall look of the 2018 A8 is continuing its tradition as being a slightly inflated version of its smaller family members, but in our book that is not such a bad thing. The A8 will use the Volkswagen Group’s MLB Evo architecture, which also carries the Audi Q7SUV and the new A4 sedan. Expect the new A8 to lose some weight compared with the current car, and improve its MPG ratio, which uses an alu-intensive platform but isn’t exactly going to a featherweight category.
2018 Audi A8 specs and engine information’s
Engine or better yet engines that are going to push this elegant A8 will be offered depending on the market and variant one chooses. There are some rumors and information about a new V8 diesel with about 400 HP and 500 lb-ft of torque, but that engine is likely to remain for Europe only, given the current state of the Volkswagen Group’s diesel crisis. The US markets are more likely to get the A8 with Audi’s new 3.0 L turbocharged V6 from the S4 as a base engine, and Audi’s 4.0 L twin-turbo V8 available as an option. The range-topping A8 W12 seems likely to continue, since there’s a new-generation 600 HP direct-injected W12 that’s just waiting to be installed in the VW Group’s big buck products. All A8’s surely will come standard with Quattro AWD, and an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Release date and price
Release date and price. The A8 is expected to make its debut in Europe sometime in early 2017, and the U.S. arrival is expected sometime later that year. Its price is expected to rise a bit beyond the current A8’s $83.000 starting price, but with all of this high tech interior and new design form outside is justified. One better sounding information is the retention of a 6 cylinder model that should still keep it under $90.000 to start.
