The Corvette, known colloquially as the Vette, is a sports car manufactured by Chevrolet. The car has been produced through seven generations. The first model, a convertible, was introduced at the GM Motorama in 1953 as a concept show car. Myron Scott is credited for naming the car after the type of small, maneuverable warship called a Corvette. This is probably something what every Vette lover knows, but there is something new being cooked up in 2018. There are some reports that C8 under code name “ZERV” is giving thumbs up to Zora Arkus-Duntov, who had vital influence in the development of the earliest Corvettes, and was an advocate for the mid-engine layout. Beside this there are also some information that C8 might get an power upgrade from a new 4 cam, 32 valve V8 engine, and the possibility of an electrified ‘E-Ray’ Corvette in 2020.
2018 Corvette Engine and specs
According to the online buzz, the 2018 Chevrolet Corvette C8 is getting mid engine configuration and new and fresh powerplant that is supposed to be 4 cam, 32 valve V8 that will produce somewhere around 500 HP, maybe more. Since the Corvette Z06 has a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 engine that develops 650 HP and 650 lb-ft of torque, we will wait for the more official information about the C8s engine specs, because these are clearly speculations. Nevertheless the info about mid engine placement is great, if the Chevy decide to go with it through the end. We all know that Chevrolet has raised our expectations with this topic before, but never really delivered. Hopefully this is the year that mid engine Vette sees the light of day. The reason why this gets us all fired up is that mounting the engine in the middle instead of the front of the vehicle puts more weight over the rear tires, so they have more traction and provide more assistance to the front tires in braking the vehicle, with less chance of rear-wheel lock up and less chance of a skid or spin out. In most automobiles, and in sports cars especially, ideal car handling requires balanced traction between the front and rear wheels when cornering, in order to maximize the possible speed around curves without sliding out, which is very easy to achieve with centrally placed powerplants.
Exterior changes of new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette
If all the information turns out to be true we can expect that the C8 will go exotic. The Outside will be redesigned to accommodate middle engine placement which means that it will probably resemble Lamborghini and Ferrari on the outside, on the first look, but it will still be the American, butch, bullet fast vehicle.
According to the rumors the front nose clip will resemble Holden Commodore SSV, but with even wider flares, giving it ready and predator crouch look, while the cabin, roof, and exterior mirrors will probably be reused design from today’s Stingray. A Holden SSV sheet metal will wrap door to door around the back of 2018 Chevrolet Corvette C8. We can expect tighter wheelbase that will help in steering response and stability, more weight at the back (implied) which will make it rocket forward and brake even harder.
Inside of the C8 Vette is going to be similar to previous ones. We say similar because the speculations are that C8 will be even more sporty inside. Chevy will try to make outside of the car reflected by its inside, and they will try to do that by being even more driver emphasized. Inside will trade some of its comfort for high speed safety, which is ok by us. Inside trim will be packed with carbon fiber inserts, high quality upholstery and plastic. It will make you feel like you are sitting behind a wheel and console of a jet fighter, which is a rare feeling these days.
Release date adn price
Release date and Price of new 2018 Chevrolet Corvette is yet highly unknown. Both are kept secret as some of the much needed info about C8, but we came across some alleged information which state that Chevy is planning to debut the C8 at the 2018 NAIAS – North American international auto show. As for the price it is expected to start at around $100.000 which is a lot, but when u compare it to a cognition that it will finally be highly expected mid engine Vette, we believe it is worth every penny.
